How to use the serp preview tool
Two things people are usually surprised by. Mobile truncates earlier than desktop — roughly 50 characters of title against 60 — and mobile is where most searches happen, so writing to the desktop limit means being cut on the majority of impressions. And Google rewrites titles it does not like: research on large samples has found it replaces a substantial share of them, usually with the page H1 or a brand-stripped version. A meta description is a suggestion too; Google ignores it and generates its own snippet whenever the query suggests something more relevant. Neither is a reason to skip writing them, but it is a reason not to agonise.
