How to use the howto schema generator

1 Fill in the fields. Empty ones are left out rather than emitted blank.

2 Keep the script-tag wrapper on unless you are inserting the JSON somewhere that adds it.

3 Paste it into your page and check it with Google’s Rich Results Test before relying on it.

That removal is the honest headline. HowTo markup produced a rich result with numbered steps and images until Google deprecated it for all users in late 2023, so the search-result payoff is currently zero. The markup remains valid schema.org and is still consumed by other things — assistants, aggregators, and anything parsing structured data independently of Google — so it is not useless, but adding it in the expectation of a rich result would be based on out-of-date advice that is still widely repeated. If your goal is specifically a search appearance, your effort is better spent elsewhere.
