YouTube allows 100 characters in a title and shows roughly 60 in search results and around 40 on mobile. The gap between allowed and shown is where titles fail.

How to use the youtube title length checker

1 Draft your text here rather than in the platform, where losing an over-long draft is easy.
2 Watch the bars — the truncation limit matters more than the hard maximum.
3 Copy the finished text across when it fits.

Writing to the 100-character limit means the last 40 characters exist only for the algorithm and never for a human. Since YouTube already uses the description and tags for topic signals, keyword-stuffing the tail of a title costs you nothing in ranking and costs a viewer the point of the video. Front-load: the subject in the first 40 characters, any qualifier after. Worth knowing that the visible length varies with the surface — a title on the watch page shows more than one in a sidebar recommendation, and the sidebar is where a lot of views come from.
