Working hours are working days times the length of a working day. A month of 21 working days at 8 hours is 168 hours; at 7.5 hours it is 157.5. The day length matters more than people expect over a year.

How to calculate working hours

1 Enter the period.
2 Set your standard working day.
3 Deduct public holidays.
4 Use the result for capacity or billing, not for actual productive time.

Half an hour a day is 130 hours a year — over three working weeks. That is why the difference between a 7.5 and an 8 hour standard day is a real contractual matter rather than a rounding, and why lunch breaks being paid or unpaid changes an annual figure substantially. For billing, the number that matters is billable hours rather than working hours, and the ratio between them is rarely above 60%.
