An unscrambler checks your letters against a dictionary and returns every word that can be spelled from them. Words using all the letters are exact anagrams and are listed first; shorter words follow, grouped by length. The letters LISTEN, for instance, also spell SILENT, ENLIST and TINSEL.

How to unscramble letters

1 Type your letters. Order does not matter.
2 Use a question mark for a blank tile — it stands in for any single letter.
3 Exact anagrams appear in the dark panel; everything shorter is grouped below by word length.

The dictionary is loaded only when you start typing, and only the word lengths your rack can reach — a seven-letter rack pulls about 88 KB rather than the whole list. It is Webster’s Second International, whose copyright lapsed long ago, so it is generous with archaic words and is not a tournament word list. If you are playing competitively, check anything unfamiliar against your game’s own dictionary.

Questions

Up to fourteen, which is the longest word length in the dictionary. Longer racks are trimmed.
