Shopify product image size

2048 × 2048 square. That is the size Shopify’s zoom needs to work properly, and square keeps collection grids from looking ragged.

Consistency matters more than resolution here. A collection page shows a grid of thumbnails, and if some products were shot square and others portrait, the grid crops them differently and the page looks unfinished — which measurably affects trust. Pick one ratio and shoot everything to it. On resolution: Shopify serves resized copies automatically, so uploading 2048 does not slow the store down, and going below it disables the zoom that shoppers use to check texture and detail. Shopify accepts up to 4472 × 4472 and 20 MB, but 2048 is the practical sweet spot.
