Instagram line break generator

Puts one invisible character on every blank line so Instagram keeps it. Without it the app strips empty lines and a carefully spaced caption arrives as a single block. Lines that already have text on them are left exactly as they are.
How to use the instagram line break generator
Instagram trims lines that contain nothing but whitespace when it saves a caption, which is why spacing typed directly into the app collapses the moment you post. Giving each empty line a character to hold gives the parser something to keep. The character used here is U+2800 BRAILLE PATTERN BLANK, an official Unicode character that is a real, occupied cell rather than a space, which is why it survives filters that strip a zero-width space or trim ordinary blanks.
A line holding only spaces or tabs is treated as empty and gets the filler, so the spaces you cannot see are replaced rather than added to. Windows line endings are normalised at the same time, so a caption drafted in Notepad and one drafted on a phone come out identical.
The cost is real and small. Meta documents the caption limit as 2,200 characters, with a maximum of 30 hashtags and 20 mentions, and each filler character counts as one of those 2,200. Three blank lines cost three characters. Twenty cost twenty, which still is not the problem; the problem is that a screen reader announces a padded caption line by line, and a wall of empty lines is tedious to listen to. Two or three breaks for readability is reasonable and helps everyone. Twenty is spacing as decoration, and it makes the caption worse for the people who most need it to be plain.
What people use it for
- Spacing a caption into paragraphs that survive being posted
- Rewriting a caption that collapsed into one block the moment it went up
- Formatting a list so each item sits on its own line rather than running together
- Drafting a long caption outside the app, where an accidental send is not one tap away
Questions
It trims lines containing only whitespace when the caption is saved. A line needs a real character on it to survive.
U+2800, the blank Braille pattern. It is a genuine occupied character rather than a space, so filters that strip whitespace leave it alone.
Because more platforms strip it, and because it has no width, which means some editors collapse the line anyway. The Braille blank behaves like a normal character everywhere.
Yes, one per blank line, against a caption limit Meta documents as 2,200 characters.
Thirty, and twenty mentions, both documented alongside the character limit. Going over is rejected rather than trimmed.
It counts as empty and the spaces are replaced by the single filler character. Nothing is added on top of them.
Often, but a bio is 150 characters, so every filler costs proportionally far more. Use one break at most.
Usually. The same trick holds anywhere whitespace-only lines are trimmed, including some comment boxes and chat clients. It does nothing where line breaks already survive.
In moderation, no. A caption padded with many filler lines is read out line by line and is tiring to listen to, so keep the spacing to what the writing needs.
No. The substitution happens in this page and nothing leaves your browser.
