ISBN barcode generator

An ISBN-13 *is* an EAN-13 — same barcode, same check digit rule. Enter the first twelve digits and the thirteenth is calculated for you.

The 978 and 979 prefixes were allocated to publishing specifically so that book numbers could live inside the retail barcode system, which is why a book scans at any till without special equipment. Two things worth knowing. An old ISBN-10 is not the same number with three digits added: converting means prefixing 978, dropping the ISBN-10 check digit and recalculating a new one under the EAN rule, because the two use different check algorithms. And the price add-on you see beside a book barcode is a separate five-digit EAN-5 symbol, not part of the ISBN.
