Facebook post size
The Open Graph image. Also what X and LinkedIn use.
Cropped in your browser · your image is never uploaded
A shared link uses 1200 × 630 — the Open Graph image. A photo you upload directly is better at 1080 × 1350, the same portrait ratio Instagram prefers, because it takes more vertical space in the feed.
How to use the facebook post size
These are two different mechanisms and it is worth not confusing them. When you paste a link, Facebook fetches the page’s Open Graph image and shows it at roughly 1.91:1 — you control that by setting og:image on the page, not by uploading anything. When you upload a photo directly, you control the shape, and portrait works harder. The other thing to know is that Facebook caches Open Graph data aggressively, so changing a page’s image does not change the preview until the cache is refreshed through their Sharing Debugger.
