Aspect ratio is width and height reduced by their greatest common divisor. 3440 × 1440 reduces to 43:18, usually marketed as 21:9. Total pixels are simply width times height — 4.95 megapixels in that case.

How to work with resolutions

1 Enter a resolution to get its true ratio and pixel count.
2 Or switch tabs to solve for a missing dimension at a fixed ratio.
3 Compare against the table of standard resolutions.
4 Watch for marketing ratios that are not the mathematical ones.

Several advertised ratios are approximations. "21:9" ultrawide is actually 43:18 at 3440×1440 and 64:27 at 2560×1080 — neither is 21:9, which would be 2.333 rather than 2.389. DCI 4K at 4096×2160 is 17:9, not 16:9, which is why cinema 4K and television 4K are different resolutions with the same name. The reduced ratio shown here is the true one, which occasionally disagrees with the box.

Questions

Mathematically 43:18. It is marketed as 21:9, which is an approximation.
